Tour of Doranya

Alex recorded this video at the beginning of November when we took Doranya for a lovely country ride to Ottawa, the bush on the outskirts of Kanata that is, and parked it in front of Alex’s sister’s home for the night. Some of you have seen the inside of the van, but we couldn’t visit all of you in Ottawa (sorry Tim), so here is how it looks inside. We hope to have many road-trip videos next year and yes, I began my research into how to ship her to Europe and if we can spend a year there. Alex thinks it’s a bit early, but there is a lot of researching and planning for such an Advanture, including travel medical and campervan insurances. And because of Brexit, visa requirements for Alex. We’d love to do this as soon as we can, perhaps early 2022 (after we’ve gotten our Covid vaccines). In the meantime, we expect to iron out the kinks of vanlife driving and camping as much as circumstances permit us next year. If anyone knows something (or even better, have the experience) about motorhome shipping from Halifax to Antwerp please let us know one way or another. We so far have our eyes on two companies: Seabridge and IVSS. Our van won’t fit in a container, thus thinking of RoRo (Roll-on Roll-off) service with the possibility of Alex travelling onboard. (The idea of crossing the ocean by sea for the first time since I came to Canada in 1968 is quite exciting for me. Shiver me timbers and splice the mainbrace! – A.) Me? I don’t think with my motion sickness I can survive 7 days at sea, so I’d take the shorter 7-hour flight instead.
