Off to Norway

Storyline: Scandinavia

Thus, Jun 12

It is about seven hours from Boden, Sweden to Narvik, Norway by train. The longest seven hours we had travelling, as we’d soon find out. Although we may have not travelled as extensively as many, our trips, except two short ones in the past, are self organised. Thus, we are on our own if something goes wrong. Boden, Sweden

Storyline: Scandinavia

Wed, Jun 11

Shortly after we left Stockholm we were already north of 60°. Boden (around 66°), (“a drab little place”, the train attendant told us), is a former military town located in northern Sweden, some 80 kilometres south of the arctic circle and about 220km latitudinal north of Iqaluit, Canada. Heading North

Storyline: Scandinavia

Tuesday, June 10 is our last day in Stockholm. We are heading north towards the Arctic circle. Our next stop will be Boden. I have already mentioned this a few times in previous posts but we had a wonderful stay at Continue reading “Heading North”

We love Stockholm

Fri, June 6

Stockholm, the largest Scandinavian city and the first stop for our trip, is stunningly charming. Spread across 14 islands Continue reading “We love Stockholm”

Arriving in Stockholm

Storyline: Scandinavia

As everywhere in Europe getting from the airport to the city centre is very easy. Take the airport express.  It is 48 km from Stockholm Arlanda Airport to the city centre Continue reading “Arriving in Stockholm”

Common themes throughout the journey

Storyline: Scandinavia

Although only 30 days from landing in Stockholm on June 5th to departing from Copenhagen airport (CPH) July 4th, this trip felt a lot longer Continue reading “Common themes throughout the journey”

Summer Solstice in Bergen

Storyline: Scandinavia

It is Saturday and the sun is finally out here in Bergen. It is also summer solstice. We are on the top of Mount Fløyen. 320m above sea level. Continue reading “Summer Solstice in Bergen”

Assembling the puzzle

Storyline: Scandinavia

Our Scandinavian trip was anything but short of adventures. In the next little while we’ll take you through Sweden and Norway: perhaps as usually happens, first my posts and then Alex’s videos. Continue reading “Assembling the puzzle”

Storyline: Scandinavia

Currently in Bergen, our Scandinavian trip so far has not been short of adventures. The scenery is spectacular, regardless the frequent rain that has been following us since we left Boden, Sweden. We have loads of photos and videos to process, and many stories to tell when back home. Stay tunned.

Seville, Spain

Seville was our first stop in Spain and it is almost the last video (Vigo still to come) Alex mange to pull together just a day before our next trip.

’round in Ronda, Spain

One can wander around the beautiful city of Ronda and its magnificent gorge for days. We wish we had more time to explore all of its magic.

Our Scandinavian trip is all booked. We hope to spend a month there in June. I began this process last November. Transatlantic flights, accommodations, and recently the local intercity transportation: trains, planes and ferries. Continue reading “Update”

Cordoba, Spain

Alex’s first video out of the pipeline. We spent a week in Córdoba the third and last (for now) stop in sunny Andalucía. Despite some rain at the beginning we enjoyed this city full of history, architecture, opportunity for meandering by Guadalquivir River, and mild winter temperatures.

Final notes: Andalucia and Galicia

Storyline: Winter 2025: Portugal and Spain

This is a wrap-up on our Spanish part of the trip and a catch up for topics left out of previous posts. And although we did dash through Madrid, it wasn’t the main focus of our winter travel. Continue reading “Final notes: Andalucia and Galicia”

Vigo, Galicia

Storyline: Winter 2025: Portugal and Spain

Wed, Feb 5

We stand on the top of Castro Mountain, the highest point and right in the centre of Vigo, admiring the spectacular views across the Ria de Vigo, which estuary is sheltered by the Cíes Islands. Its summit is crowned by the Fortaleza de Santa María do Castro, constructed in 1665 and currently an archeological site. Continue reading “Vigo, Galicia”
